Pre-Anesthetic Bloodwork

We are now able to do an in-house blood draw for pre-anesthetic bloodwork.

For pets under 5 years of age, pre-anesthetic blood work is optional, but not required.

For pets who are 5 years of age or older, pre-anesthetic blood work is required to be performed prior to surgery.

If your pet(s) is over 5 years of age and pre-anesthetic blood work has not been performed or provided within 2 weeks of your appointment, they will be declined.

Pre-anesthetic bloodwork can be ran the morning of your appointment, in-house, for $99.

Results are within minutes, as long as the results are clear, surgery will move forward as usual.

What is the pre-anesthetic bloodwork for?

When checking pre-anesthetic bloodwork, we are looking at kidney and liver functions. These are the two systems that metabolizes anesthesia. Bloodwork will also give us your pet's white and red blood cell counts. Results will show us any signs of infection as well as if there are any issues with liver and/or kidney functions.

Our vet reviews results once the bloodwork has been run.

If results show any signs of infection or issues with kidney/liver, your pet will be declined for surgery.

If results are clean, surgery moves forward as scheduled.
